The University of Liverpool is among 150 universities across the country that is expected to experience national industrial action by members of the University & College Union (UCU) on a number of days in February and March.
The University will remain open throughout the industrial action and the vast majority of teaching and learning will proceed as usual. For most students there will be little or no disruption and you should assume that your lectures, seminars and classes will take place unless notified otherwise.
The 18 days of UCU strike action across the two months are planned to take place on:
- Wed 1st February
- Thurs 9th & Fri 10th February
- Tues 14th, Wed 15th & Thurs 16th February
- Tues 21st, Wed 22nd & Thurs 23rd February
- Mon 27th, Tues 28th February, Wed 1st & Thurs 2nd March
- Thurs 16th & Fri 17th March
- Mon 20th, Tues 21st & Wed 22nd March
Some areas of the University may experience higher levels of engagement in strike action than others and we have published FAQs to help you understand what this means and how we will minimise the impact on your studies, if you are in an affected area.
Key points
- Please check your University email as well as our Industrial Action web hub and Student News site for regular updates.
- Please assume your lectures, seminars, classes and supervision will take place, unless told otherwise. Staff members do not have to inform the University in advance that they will be on strike. Where staff members do let us know in advance that they will be on strike, we will inform students.
- Some of the dates of planned industrial action at UK universities coincides with strike action in other sectors, including schools and rail travel. If you are experiencing issues attending campus for your teaching sessions as a result of this wider disruption, please speak to your Academic Advisor who will be able to advise you on next steps.
- Our libraries, computer rooms, and services will be available throughout to enable ongoing support for your studies.
- If you are on campus during the strike action you may see some staff picketing at the entrance to some buildings. We have provided some detail about pickets and what to expect on our dedicated FAQs page.
If your area of study is one which might be impacted by industrial action, your school will write to you with more detailed information and to provide resources. Deadlines which are significantly impacted by industrial action will be extended and we will ensure that assessments reflect the learning that has taken place.
