Industrial action (in relation to pay and pensions) at 150 universities had been due to continue this week. National discussions to try and resolve the dispute have been taking place over the last week, between UCEA (Universities and Colleges Employers’ Association) and our recognised trade unions.
As a result of constructive progress being made in these discussions, strike action that was due to take place at universities over the next two weeks (up to and including 2 March) has been called off.
What does this mean for me?
The University and College Union (UCU) will pause industrial action and not call any new industrial action in weeks commencing 20 and 27 February. All teaching will go ahead as planned.
Is more strike action planned?
Yes. The action has been paused rather than halted completely. Action due to take place from 16 March onwards remains scheduled to go ahead at present.
What happens next?
UCEA and the joint trade unions have agreed to proceed to time-limited talks to determine the work necessary on the other issues in dispute. We hope that constructive discussions can continue on the other issues in dispute and that a full resolution can be achieved so that further disruption for our University community can be avoided.
