Sustainability volunteering opportunities this month

Green Guild Roof Garden

We want sustainability to be a fundamental part of your student experience and have developed a range of volunteering opportunities to encourage you to think green and be proactive in helping us achieve our sustainability goals.

If you have a cause you’re passionate about, volunteering provides a fantastic chance to gain experience, make a positive impact, and connect with like-minded individuals.

You can organise your own volunteering experiences but it is worth registering as a volunteer with the Liverpool Guild of Students to see what opportunities are available locally and within the University.

Here are some things you can get involved with this month:

Get growing with the Guild this summer

The Sustainability Team and volunteers are busy all year-round transforming areas of campus into the garden of dreams.

Based at the Central Teaching Hub, our raised beds, Guild Walk Wall Planter and Hügelkultur provide opportunities to grow food in the most sustainable way.

Keep an eye out for Give it a Go sessions during August to get engaged in growing things, from herb pot planting to microgreens growing!

Hedgehog friendly campus

The University of Liverpool Hedgehog Friendly Campus group is a group of University staff and students working together to improve outcomes for hedgehogs on our campuses and in local communities. They undertake a number of activities and are currently working towards gold re-accreditation.

The Hedgehog friendly campus scheme is a national initiative across several universities to raise awareness for the plight of hedgehogs and formulate practical steps to improve their habitats across a variety of campuses.

Find out how you can get involved here.

Become a virtual conservation volunteer with Instant Wild

Take part in vital conservation work, bringing you live images and videos from amazing locations all around the world. By identifying the images of animals taken by motion triggered cameras, you will be contributing to conservation and making a positive impact on the future for wildlife.

Download the app or log in to begin tagging the species in the images, it’s as simple as that!

Contribute to the Sustainable Liverpool blog

The blog is written by staff and students and the team are always looking for contributors. It featuring the latest news, research and events around sustainability on campus, as well as articles on anything from climate action, innovation and gender equality, to tips on wellbeing and sustainable living.

If you’re interested in sustainability, considering journalism or communications as a future career, or would like to share your research please complete this form or email: sustainability@liverpool.ac.uk for more details.

Start a student society

The are many student societies that you could join at the University, so take a look at the Societies’ Page to see all that is on offer. If you can’t find what you’re looking for then you are welcome to submit a new society application for the 2024/25 academic year. These will be reviewed over the summer and the team will be in touch in August with next steps!
