Joining one of The Guild’s 200 plus societies is a sure fire way of meeting new people and immersing yourself in university life.
And the good news is that there’s such a wide range of societies, you’ll definitely find one to tempt you.
We’ve picked just eight societies to shout about here but you can get the full low-down on all societies on The Guild’s website.
The stitching society
Whether you’re the next Tom Daly or you’ve not picked up a sewing needle in your life, it doesn’t matter as everyone is welcome at The Stitching Society’s craft nights and coffee mornings. The society covers knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, cross stitch and more. If you already know how to do one or all or these, come along too to share your skills.

Quiz Society
If you love your general knowledge and are partial to a quiz or two, join likeminded students in the Quiz Society. It’s the perfect place to exercise your trivia skills!
Darts society
This is a great society for anyone who enjoys playing darts or socialising around a dart board! All skill levels are welcome at Darts Society. Come along to play in a fun and inclusive environment, and if you would like to play competitively, there will be options open to you during the year.

Salsa Society
Specialising in Cuban Salsa and Bachata, Salsa Society is the place for you if you’re interested in learning new skills, meeting people and having a ball while you do it. Beginner and intermediate levels are welcome.
Liverpool Debating Union
The Liverpool Debating Union represents all universities in Liverpool and all levels of experience at debating are welcome. They hold public debates and run a whole range of social opportunities, as well as competitions which could take you all over the UK and Europe. If you have a passion for debating, it’s well worth dropping the union an email.
Sober Soc
If you’re interested in socialising with other students where alcohol is not involved, then Sober Soc is a great place to start. You don’t have to not drink alcohol ever to be a member of Sober Soc (although those who are totally sober are very welcome), you just need to commit to not drinking alcohol during your meet ups. From cocktail making to coffee dates, they try a range of activities every term.
Gaming Society
Weekly meet ups are the name of the game if you’re interested in chatting with and playing against your peers in Gaming Society. They would love anyone interested, from beginners to pros and they have various Esports teams for those wanting to play more competitively.
Bake Soc
Do you have a love of baking? You don’t need to be an expert, you just need to have an interest in all things baking! It helps if you like to eat cake too. Bake Soc is a treat of a society that you don’t want to miss.
