Six societies to help get you socialising

Joining one of The Guild’s 200 plus societies is a sure fire way of meeting new people who have similar interests to you.

And the good news is that there’s such a wide range of societies, you’ll definitely find one to tempt you. So, if you’re looking to add to your friendship network (and trust us, there are plenty of students who haven’t quite found their group yet) then joining a society that you will enjoy being a part of is a great first step.

We recently shone a spotlight on a small bunch of societies (out of the 200+ available!), so here’s another random selection and don’t forget to check out the full list on The Guild’s website.

Afro-Caribbean Society

This is a great society for anyone interested in experiencing and celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture. From parties to career network events, this is the place if you want to maximise the opportunities you get at university, whilst having fun along the way.

Artefacts: Liverpool Medical School Performing Arts

Whether you’re interested in drama, dance, choir or band, all medics (and non-medics for that matter) of all year groups are invited to let off steam in a series of annual events including a second-term musical.

Liv Yoga

Practising yoga has a whole range of health benefits – both physical and mental – and it’s really do-able to fit it in between studying and your other responsibilities. Liv Yoga welcomes everybody, no matter your yoga ability and as well as practising in classes there are social events too, where you can leave your mat at home and enjoy the company of your society peers.

Re-enactment Society

Is Ye Olde Worlde calling your name? The Re-enactment Society let’s you take a step back in time to historic life and battles from the 11th to 13th centuries. Members get involved in public events across the UK and host combat training sessions on campus every week followed by some socialising at the bar!

Photography Society

If you just love taking photos then Photography Society is for you. Come along to develop your skills, get creative and find out how to take the perfect insta shot! There’s lot of socialising in between snapping pics too.

Remember – it’s never too late to join and if none of the above appeal, there is roughly another 194 to choose from. Get the full lowdown on societies on The Guild’s website.
