At a time when cyber security threats are growing in both frequency and sophistication, it’s important that we are all more vigilant and stay safe online. Recent research showed that 100% of participating UK universities were subjected to phishing attacks in 2023, while 64% fell victim to viruses, spyware or malware.[1]
These figures highlight the urgent need to include cyber security awareness as part of your studies at the University, so IT Services is taking proactive steps to address these threats with a new campaign – Behind the Hack – including training courses and in-person drop in events.
Behind the Hack reminds staff and students that cyber security isn’t just the responsibility of IT Services, but a collective effort. Everyone’s digital activity directly impacts the safety of the University’s data as well as your own personal information.
Your actions matter
You can sharpen your cyber safety skills and contribute to a more secure online environment for our University community by completing the comprehensive training offered by IT Services. It includes bitesize training videos available on Canvas in KnowHow: Study for Success > Digital Skills > Cyber Security. Each video is very quick to complete, with the total training available being an hour, so you can dip in and out at times to suit you. The training also includes quizzes designed to check your understanding, enhancing your cyber security awareness.
Drop-ins
For those who prefer a more interactive experience, the Behind the Hack Cyber Security Skills Drop-in will take place from 10am to 4pm each day from 22 to 25 October 2024, at the Sydney Jones Library. Here you can drop in, grab a coffee, and complete the training in a supportive, focused environment. The Drop-in is a convenient way to ensure you complete your training uninterrupted, with IT Services staff on hand to answer any questions. No booking is required, but if you would like to attend with your friends in a group of five or more, you are encouraged to contact ITMarketing@liverpool.ac.uk to let us know.
