How to store your work safely throughout your studies

Student working on laptop

You’re going to produce a lot of documents while studying at the University – from lecture notes and assignments to research and exam prep – and you will want to keep these safe, secure and accessible.

Portable physical storage, such as an external hard drive or pen drive, might seem like the ideal solution, but they can be easily broken, lost or develop faults which cause the data saved on them to be lost. IT Services cannot help you recover data lost from physical storage, so would like to remind you of the file storage solutions available to keep your data safe throughout your studies.

University file storage

A range of file storage solutions are available to all students and, if you are conducting research, IT Services offers detailed guidance on where to store your research data.

For any files you need to store on your M: Drive, you can connect to this on a Windows 10 PC or Mac, however it is recommended that you save your individual work to your OneDrive wherever possible, as this cloud based solution is accessible from anywhere at any time and offers a number of options for file sharing and recovery.
