Graduating next week? Here’s everything you need to know

Graduation

May we be the first to congratulate you on your upcoming graduation! You should be really proud of what you’ve achieved.

To help you navigate your special day, we’ve created a ‘before, during and after’ checklist, which covers everything you need to know about your #LivUniGrad December ceremony.

Let’s stay in touch!
If you’re graduating this December, update your contact details here.

Before the day

  1. Check your graduation itinerary email – you will receive this in the run up to your ceremony (about a week before).
  2. Check where your ceremony will be held, as well as where to collect and return your gown. Read our guide to academic dress so you know what you will be wearing on the day.
  3. Make sure you know where your gown order confirmation is and bring it with you on the day of your ceremony.
  4. Find out more about the official documentation you’ll receive.
  5. If you are planning to drive, check out parking options. Parking on campus will be extremely limited on the day. The public multi-storey car park on Mount Pleasant is the largest nearby parking facility. See Liverpool City Council parking for a list of city centre car parks.
  6. Have guests who don’t have a ticket? Remember, you can stream all ceremonies on our website or on YouTube. Guests can also watch live ceremonies in the Guild’s Stanley Theatre. Guests do not need a ticket to watch the streamed ceremonies on campus.

The University may have official photographers and videographers at Graduation. If you don’t want to be photographed or filmed, please tell the event staff (who will be wearing a blue gown) immediately.

On the day

  1. At least two to three hours before the start of your ceremony, head to the Sports Centre to be dressed by Ede & Ravenscroft in your gown.
  2. You’ll also collect your tickets, Graduation brochure and certificate from the Sports Centre. You’ll get a free University of Liverpool bag to help keep everything safe.
  3. If you have booked photography through Ede and Ravenscroft, please head to the Guild to get your photos taken in the Mountford Hall. If the queue is too long, pop back later but check with the Sales Desk for closing times so you don’t miss out.

Check out your #LivUniGrad Instagram Filter

To help you share your achievement with your friends, family and followers, we’ve created a Class of 2024 Instagram filter and University of Liverpool Instagram sticker GIFs.

You can use the filter by clicking the link in our bio during graduation week. To add the Uni stickers, tap GIF and search ‘livuni’.

During your ceremony

  1. Doors open one hour before the start of the ceremony. Make sure you allow time for security checks. It’s important you are seated at least 45 minutes before your ceremony begins.
  2. When it is your turn to go on stage you will be directed by staff to the side of the stage in a continuous procession. Give your name to the officer at the foot of the steps and then follow their instructions to proceed onto the stage to collect your degree.
  3. After being admitted, you should continue to walk across the stage and then go back to your seat as directed by the ushers.
  4. Your ceremony lasts for around 90 minutes.

University merchandise will all be available on the day of your graduation. You can also find out more about items via our Alumni Shop.

After your graduation

  1. If you’ve hired a gown from Ede & Ravenscroft, you will need to return your gown on the day of your ceremony – head to the Guild to drop it off (note, although gowns are being collected from the Sports Centre, they should be dropped off at the Guild)
  2. You can watch all ceremonies live via the University website. You can also order a professional recording of your ceremony from Achievement TV.

*******************

Your student computing account will remain active until after your official end date (or graduation date, if this is later). You will receive an email two weeks before that date with details of when your account will be closed.

Beyond graduation

Just because you have graduated doesn’t mean that you’re no longer a part of our University community. Quite the opposite in fact as we value every single member of our alumni network and want to stay connected with you in the years to come.

Here are three ways we can stay in touch:

  1. Make sure you update your contact details via the Alumni webpages to receive newsletters, event invitations, and the latest updates from the University. Don’t forget, not long after your graduation you won’t be able to access your University email address, so you need to sign-up with an alternative email to avoid missing out.
  2. Make sure you follow our Alumni team on InstagramXFacebookYouTube, WeChat (利物浦Uni校友会) and join our LinkedIn group
  3. Our Careers and Employability team can help you find an amazing role or help you apply for further study. To continue accessing the resources and support from the Careers & Employability team after graduation, complete this short online form to update your contact details. You can find out about all the careers support you can access on Student News.

As a #LivUniGrad you will:

  • Receive our annual Alumni magazine, newsletters and updates
  • Receive exclusive invites to our social, careers and networking events
  • Receive discounts on hotels and holiday accommodation
  • Receive CV, interview and online test support, as well as access graduate jobs and careers resources via Handshake
  • Be able to join one of our Alumni Networks to stay in touch and continue to build your network
  • Receive free online journals and library access
