A message from Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Black.
Today marks two years since the start of the recent conflict in the Middle East and the 7 October attacks in Israel. This conflict has had an impact on staff and students right across the University and the violence and loss of life that has affected innocent people in Israel and Gaza is heart-breaking. We share the deep distress and concern that this terrible situation continues to cause.
We understand staff and students in our Jewish community will be particularly affected by this anniversary, and we know that last week’s antisemitic attack at a synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur will have left many members of our community distressed and fearful. Our thoughts are with all those directly impacted.
The University condemns and stands together against any form of antisemitism and racism. We are proudly one, global, welcoming and inclusive community for all students and staff.
Last week, we wrote to student and staff groups who will have been particularly affected by the attack at Heaton Park and we would encourage anyone who has been impacted to remember that there is support available if you need it.
Student support is available via our Student Services team. Please email advice@liverpool.ac.uk. For further information on support services please visit the Student Services website. If you are a member of staff who has been affected by this news, we encourage you to speak with your line manager if you feel comfortable doing so; and please keep in mind that our Employee Assistance Programme is available to all staff, offering free and confidential counselling and support. Further information about wellbeing support can be found on the Staff Wellbeing Hub.
