IT Services has identified an issue where users passwords may be visible when logging into University systems while using the Microsoft Edge browser.
This has been escalated to Microsoft, who are working to resolve the issue.
To provide additional password security, IT Services has already taken action to prevent this from happening with University (MWS) devices, where possible.
We ask all users to check your settings in Microsoft Edge to ensure that passwords are not visible:
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Click on ‘Settings’ (or type in: edge://settings/ )
- Click on ‘Passwords and autofill’
- Click on the ‘Personal info’ link
- All settings should be switched off (greyed out). If not:
- Delete any entries in ‘Personal info’ that contain your password
- Switch off ‘Save and autofill personal info’ at the top of the screen.
All users, especially those who are using your own devices, should be extra vigilant while logging in with Microsoft Edge by ensuring:
- You are not sharing your screen while logging on
- No one can see your screen while logging on
If you think that your password has been seen by someone else, please reset it as soon as possible: Passwords – University of Liverpool
We appreciate your cooperation and want to reassure you that we are actively working with Microsoft to resolve this issue and protect your information.
