With this year’s graduation ceremonies taking place on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December 2025, we’re highlighting a selection of University of Liverpool alumni who are making an impact in their industries, communities, and beyond.
- David Olusoga – BA History 1994
Historian, broadcaster and author, David continues to explore untold stories of British history. He recently appeared in The Celebrity Traitors, bringing his expert storytelling to a new audience.

- Victoria Derbyshire – BA Journalism 1987
Award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Victoria has long been a trusted voice in UK media, championing factual reporting and investigative journalism.

- John Shave – BA Music 2010
A musician and composer championed in the alumni magazine for his creative contributions to contemporary music.

- Jasmin Paris – BA Geography 2006
Jasmin is an endurance athlete who became the first woman to complete the gruelling Barkley Marathons, cementing her status as one of the world’s leading ultra-runners.

- Jessica Gagen – BSc Biological Sciences 2015
Jessica is making strides in scientific research and community engagement, combining her expertise with public outreach initiatives.

- Dame Amanda Blanc – BA Economics 1986
A prominent business leader and advocate for women in leadership, Dame Amanda has been featured at Liverpool Leaders events inspiring future generations of professionals.

- Emma Jane Unsworth – BA English 2000
A celebrated novelist and screenwriter Emma Jane has received critical acclaim for her work and continues to contribute to literary magazines and cultural discussions.

- Steph Barney – BSc Biological and Medical Sciences 2023
This year’s Merseyside Woman of the Year, Steph co-leads Girls on the Go, a health and wellness social enterprise empowering young women. Girls on the Go features in our Made by Alumni magazine feature.

- Dr Bob Thomas – MBChB Medicine 1950
Nobel Peace Prize laureate (1959) for his pioneering work in global health, Dr Thomas’ contributions continue to inspire medical professionals worldwide.

- Dame Patricia Routledge DBE – BA Drama 1955, Hon DLitt 1990
A beloved actor, graduate and honorary graduate whose remarkable career spanned stage and screen. Dame Patricia sadly passed away earlier this year, leaving a legacy cherished by many.

- Professor Har Gobind Khorana – PhD 1948, Hon DSci 1971
Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, Professor Khorana’s groundbreaking research in genetics changed the course of molecular biology.

- Wade Barrett – BA Sports Science 2003
A former professional wrestler turned commentator, Wade continues to entertain and inspire fans worldwide through his expertise in the wrestling world.

- Ellie Marlow – BA Sociology 2012
Ellie has been recognised with the Greatest Contribution to EDI award for her work advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

- India Sasha Atkinson – BA Education 2014
Disability educator and social entrepreneur, India won a 2025 Alumni Award for her pioneering work in accessibility and inclusive education. Nominations for next year’s awards are open until 15 December.
