We’re sharing some top tips for safely parking your motorbike on campus, to avoid opportunist thefts.
Although Liverpool is one of the safest cities in the UK, it’s important to remain vigilant about your property and ensure you’re following some basic steps to keep it safe whilst on campus.
This is more important than ever at the moment, following a rise in incidents of motorbike thefts on campus in recent weeks.
Top tips
Merseyside Police has provide advice and tips specifically for motorbike security, including :
- Using one or more locks on your bike to disable your brake and throttle, to prevent it being driven away
- Adding a D lock on your front wheel or a chain through your back wheel, so it cannot be wheeled away
- Parking up in a secure and discreet locations where passers-by are unlikely to stumble upon your vehicle, ideally somewhere covered by CCTV
- Throwing a cover over it to stop the make and model being immediately visible to someone walking past
- Adding a good-quality anti-theft alarm (more advice on this here)
Although these steps won’t necessarily guarantee your bike will be safe, individually they each act as a deterrent for someone looking to chance stealing your bike. And together they provide a tough challenge for any would-be thief.

Of course, it’s not just motorbikes but also pedal bikes, e-bikes, scooters and cars that can be at risk.
