Spooktacular events and more this October

We hope your new academic year has got off to a great start!

Now that you’re settling into a routine with your new teaching timetable we thought it might be timely to add some extra dates to your diary, so you don’t miss out on some October fun.

Here’s a rundown of events coming up in Liverpool…

Speed Mate-ing

Wednesday, 2 October

Not everyone finds their best mates as soon as they start university. If you want to make some new friends, expand your network or just spend an evening in different company, get yourself down to the Guild for Speed Mate-ing from 6-7pm.

Liverpool Literary Festival

Friday, 4 to Sunday, 6 October

The Liverpool Literary Festival takes place between October 4-6 in the Eleanor Rathbone Building on the University’s campus and students are invited to book their place at one or more of the exciting author events we’re running – absolutely free of charge. But be quick as free student tickets will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

The Guild Presents: Funnyboyz

Saturday, 5 October

Get ready for a night of the best tunes, iconic performances and the most fabulous hosts as the Guild welcomes Liverpool legends the Funnyboyz to Mountford Hall. Tickets at £4 online or £6 on the door and the event starts at 8pm. Find out more and book.

Rachel Parris: Poise

Friday, 11 October

Rachel Parris is back with her biggest tour yet, presenting a dazzling new hour of her signature blend of stand-up and songs. The BAFTA-nominated comedian is best known for both her viral satirical segments on The Mash Report and Late Night Mash which have had over 100 million views, and as one of the founding cast members of the award-winning improv group Austentatious, who regularly perform to sold out crowds in London’s West End. Houseplant Sale

 Monday, 14 to Friday, 18 October

It’s back and it’s brimming with foliage! Yes, it’s the much-loved and ever-popular Houseplant Sale on University Square, outside the Guild every day between 10am and 7pm. There will be thousands of plants of all shapes and sizes including cacti, succulents, peace lilies, palms and cheese plants. Cash, card and contactless all accepted.

Oktoberfest 2024

Friday, 18 to Sunday, 20 October

Would you like to be transported to a Bavarian paradise? Get your tickets for this year’s Oktoberfest and enjoy live music, steins of beer and mouth-watering Bavarian delicacies (German sausages and pretzels guaranteed) at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool. You can even get a student discount on tickets for Friday and Sunday (£10 plus booking fee) by using the code STUD24 when purchasing your ticket online – you’ll need to show your student ID at the venue. River of Light

Friday, 25 October to Tuesday, 5 November

This is a favourite annual event in Liverpool’s calendar. Once darkness falls a trail of light exhibitions on and around the Pier Head will illuminate the city and provide some amazing sights for selfies. This year the theme is ‘play’ and will include 12 large scale installations from some of the best light artists in the world. Think of it as a free outdoor gallery! Find out more about the trail.

Croxteth Hall Ghost Hunt w/Haunted Rooms

Saturday, 26, Sunday, 27, Thursday, 31 October and Friday, 1 November

Haunted Rooms invites you on a thrilling night of ghost hunting at Croxteth Hall, one of Merseyside’s most historic and infamously haunted locations. Inside the building lurks several ghosts. They include a young boy standing by the dining room fireplace. A dark shadowy figure that moves around the billiard room, and a gentleman, believed to be the 6th Earl of Sefton, walks through the tearoom and his former bedroom. For £59 per person, you’ll enjoy the following:

Big Pub Quiz: Halloween Special

Monday, 28 October

Whether you’re a horror fanatic or a Hocus Pocus lover, join Guild Quiz legend Che for a night testing you on all things Halloween at the Big Pub Quiz. No tricks, just treats here, with big rounds and a fancy dress competition for the chance to win spooktacular prizes! No booking required, it’s just £2 on the door and it starts at 7pm.
