The PGR Development Group (PDG) is a peer-led, voluntary initiative run by PGRs for PGRs,
It continues to serve as a supportive, inclusive forum for development, connection, and a PGR voice within the University of Liverpool’s research culture.
Here’s what we’re doing in spring 2026, as well as a look back at some highlights from autumn 2025.
What’s on in Spring 2026
The PDG has an exciting programme lined up for spring 2026, continuing its commitment to peer-led professional and personal development.
- Coffee & Connect: Our friendly monthly meet-ups started in February, with options both for PGRs in Liverpool and at Leahurst. These are informal spaces to share experiences, ideas, and build cross-discipline connections.
- Lunch & Learn: Our Lunch & Learn series of bitesize sessions on important and timely PGR topics continues with sessions scheduled for February though to May.
- Networking Event: Our next Networking Event is set for Thursday, 14 May 2026, offering another chance for PGRs to expand their networks, reflect on their PhD journey, and learn more about PDG activities.
- PGR Blog: To further uplift the voices of our PGRs, the PDG will be launching a new blog in spring 2026.

Autumn highlights
Autumn 2025 saw the University’s PGR Development Network formally rebranded as the PGR Development Group. The renewed and reinvigorated group organised numerous events.
The autumn Lunch & Learn lineup brought together expert speakers on a diverse range of topics: ‘Demystifying Academia’ with the Prosper team in October shed light on various different academic career pathways; ‘Teacher Training at Liverpool’ unpacked the University’s support for early-career educators; and ‘Wellbeing in the PhD Journey’ highlighted strategies to stay balanced and well throughout the PhD journey.
Monthly Coffee & Connect gatherings offered friendly spaces for PGRs from all faculties to meet and chat, while the PDG’s termly Networking Event was held in the Researcher Reading Room at the Sydney Jones Library – a chance for PGRs to connect with peers over tea, coffee, and lively conversations about research life.
Throughout this period, the PDG’s monthly e-bulletin continued to circulate development news and opportunities to the wider PGR community.
Get involved
The PDG’s success depends on the enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work of our PGR volunteers. Being part of the PDG committee offers opportunities to grow organisational and leadership skills, influence PGR development provision, and contribute to the University of Liverpool’s vibrant PGR community.
Now is a great time to get involved and help shape what comes next.
