The winners of this year’s University of Liverpool Poster Day have been unveiled after more than 300 entries were judged by academics across the institution.
The annual event gives second year postgraduate research students the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider academic audience and gain feedback from peers and research professionals.
The top prize winners were:
- Xiaofeng Dong from the Institute of Integrative Biology who won the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences award
- Collette Russell from the Management School who won the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences award
- Paul Reiss from the Department of Chemistry who won the Faculty of Science and Engineering award.
The Guild award for the most innovative poster was awarded by Vice-President of the Liverpool Guild of Students, James Coe to Frances Sherratt.
Xiaofeng Dong scooped the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences award
Provost and Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ian Greer, praised the PGR Development Team for their efforts in the organisation of Poster Day and congratulated the research postgraduates for their excellent posters and communication skills.
Visiting guest Dr Tony Bromley, the Senior Training and Development Officer from the University of Leeds, commended Poster Day as “one of the largest events of its kind and evidence of the vibrant research community at Liverpool.”
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences award was won by the Management School’s Collette Russell
Poster Day also extends to the University’s postgraduate researchers across the world with Poster Day Online, which remains open until 27 April.
Event organiser and Head of PGR Development, Dr Richard Hinchcliffe, said: “Poster Day is a great opportunity to showcase academic excellence within individual faculties and an important learning experience for PGRs. Not only does it give students the chance to refine and develop their communication skills within an academic context, it puts a spotlight on the superb research taking place across our University.”
Professor Graham Kemp Faculty Director for Health and Life Sciences said: “The entries have been fantastic yet again this year – the range and quality of the work on display is a credit to the students who have been involved and a real indicator of the talent which exists within the University.”
The Department of Chemistry’s Paul Reiss was named winner of the Faculty of Science and Engineering award.
The second and third place prizes in each of the faculty categories went to:
- Panrawee Phoomvuthisarn (Institute of Integrative Biology) Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
- Helen Box (Institute of Translational Medicine) Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
- James Hinks (Department of History) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Andrew McCaldon (Department of Politics) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Esra’a Tarawneh (School of Engineering) Faculty of Science and Engineering
- Andre Zamith Cardeso (Department of Chemistry) Faculty of Science and Engineering
The second and third place prizes in the Liverpool Guild of Students prize went to:
- Die Zhu (School of EEE and Computer Science) Faculty of Science and Engineering
- Nuno Ferraira (School of Architecture) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
