ReachOut is a mentoring charity that works with disadvantaged young people aged 9-16 to help support them to grow in character and attainment.
They are currently looking for University of Liverpool students to volunteer as mentors in local schools, where you will work one-on-one with mentees each week in an after-school session.
Due to social distance restrictions these will initially take place online, but will transition into face-to-face mentoring when it is safe to do so.
Here are 3 reasons to get involved:
- Enrich your CV: ReachOut provides a unique opportunity to strengthen your interpersonal and leadership skills, whilst challenging you to get out of your comfort zone.
- Be a positive role model: You’ll make a real difference to a young person aged between 9 and 11 who would benefit from the support of a positive role model.
- A straightforward volunteering experience: Once you’ve attended an evening training session you’ll pick a project to fit your timetable. Meetings takes place at the same time each week, and projects run during term time with a break for school holidays.
Students who participated in programme last year commented:
“ReachOut has been a really useful experience. I have met and worked with lots of new people, and I feel more confident as a result.” Bryony, University of Liverpool student and Mentor
“Every member of the ReachOut team was really enthusiastic, which was incredibly inspiring. My project leader was exemplary in her work, and I learned a lot from her leadership skills that will help me in my future career.” George, University of Liverpool student and Mentor
This is a great opportunity to develop your confidence, communication, and team working skills -helping you to improve your CV while giving back to the local community.
