Student volunteering opportunities to get involved with this month

Volunteering is a great way to enhance your CV, make friends, and boost your personal skills, whilst also giving something back to the wider community.

The Guild offers a host of ways to volunteer, whether on campus or with organisations outside the University. Here are just a few of the many opportunities currently on offer:

Swap Shop Assistant

Leave Liverpool Tidy is a reduce, reuse recycle project that aims to encourage mindful consumption and better waste management. Our Black Friday Swap Shop (25 November) is a Leave Liverpool Tidy event that gives students the opportunity to donate unwanted goods and “purchase ” something new without the negative environmental impact.

The volunteering role of Swap Shop Assistant will be required to help sort through donations, hang clothes on rails and lay homeware and shoes on tables. Throughout the swap shop, the rails will need replenishing and tidying. Volunteers will also be required to act as a cashier, exchanging the tokens for items.

Litter Picking Volunteer

This volunteering opportunity is a part of our wider Leave Liverpool Tidy project which is in collaboration with British Heart Foundation and Fareshare, a local food donation charity. Both charities support us as we work to get students involved in donating any unwanted food, clothes and homeware, particularly during the end of term. Our other Leave Liverpool Tidy activities involve clothing swap shops, zero waste cooking workshops, CPR training with British Heart Foundation and promoting our end of year donation points.

It is a great opportunity to get involved with a brand-new project and experience planting, harvesting and general maintenance of the CTH Garden. So why not spend an afternoon learning some gardening skills and helping to reduce the Guild’s carbon footprint? All materials will be provided so just bring yourself and get stuck in!
