Rail strike information – January 2023

Network Rail strikes

Students travelling to, from, and within the Liverpool City Region are being urged to check rail services before they travel, ahead of planned strike action by members of the RMT and Aslef unions.

Significant disruption is expected across the rail network until Sunday 8 January with strike action taking place on:

  • Thursday, 5 January
  • Friday, 6 January
  • Saturday, 7 January

Passengers are being warned to expect a very limited service across many routes with no services at all on some routes.  Disruption should also be expected on the days that follow strike action due to the knock-on impact of industrial action on shift patterns.

Please visit the Network Rail website for up to date industrial action information for services in Merseyside and across the country.

Arriving in Liverpool ahead of your assessments

Formal assessments are an essential part of your education and you will be expected to attend any scheduled in-person (in an exam room on campus) assessments unless you are prevented from doing so by illness or other extenuating circumstances.

The current rail strikes have the potential to cause disruption to your travel if you are not already in Liverpool, so please bear this in mind and plan appropriately. You can check services by visiting Network Rail or your train operating company’s website before you travel.
