If you have moved to Liverpool for your studies, make sure you register with a local GP.
Your GP is usually your first port of call if you are unwell or need medical support, so it’s important to make sure you register before you might need to visit a doctor. It is particularly important if you have a health condition such as asthma or diabetes, or require medication; but will also give you access to out of hours help if you become unwell.
Your new doctor will be able to liaise with your usual hospital consultant if necessary, and you can continue to visit your home GP on a temporary basis during the holiday periods.
Brownlow Health Central
If you live at any of the Halls of Residence or close to the University campus (postcodes L1, L2, L3, L6, L7, L8, L15, L17, L18), then you will be within the practice boundary for Brownlow Health Central which operates the Student Health Centre.
Brownlow Health Central has three surgery sites at 70 Pembroke Place (L69 3GF) and Peach Street (L69 7ZL), which is the Student Health Centre on the University campus, as well as Argyle Street (L1 5DL) in the Ropewalks areas of the city. Once registered, you can use any of these locations, and also make use of their eConsultation system for online medical queries and administrative requests such as sick notes.
You can register as a patient online via the Brownlow Health Central website or attend one of the practice locations in person.
Brownlow Health also has separate practices in Kensington, Princes Park, and Marybone (next to the Superlambanana). You can only be seen at those practices if you choose to register with one of those instead of Brownlow Health Central. More details here.
NHS App
University of Liverpool students registered with Brownlow Health can also make use of the NHS App.
The first official NHS App enables all patients to access a range of healthcare services on their smartphone or tablet.
These services include:
- Checking your symptoms and getting immediate advice
- ordering your repeat prescriptions from wherever you are.
