Canvas: Here’s what you need to do to get ready

Canvas

Canvas will be the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE) for all taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules from August 2021 onwards.

Canvas has been rolled out in stages over the last 12 months and the feedback we’ve received from students already using the new virtual learning environment has been really positive.

If you’re new to Canvas, you can find out more about all the exciting things it can do here We’ve also created this short guide to help you become more familiar with using Canvas – covering everything from what browser you should use to how you can personalise your dashboard and notifications

Moving from VITAL to Canvas

VITAL has been the University’s virtual learning environment for around a decade and we want to make sure that both students and staff continue to have access to the wealth of resources it contains.

The good news is that the majority of learning content associated with all of your VITAL modules – such as lecture notes and videos – will be automatically copied over into Canvas

Unfortunately, there are a few items that can’t be copied over as part of this process, including:

  • Turnitin assignments and feedback
  • Blackboard assignments and feedback
  • Any relevant Discussion Boards and threads
  • Blackboard quizzes
  • Items saved within Campus Pack
  • Items saved within the Mobius app

All students are being asked to ensure that they download and save these materials before 31 July 2021, which is the last day when you will be able to access VITAL. After this date, all of your academic modules will be in Canvas.

Step-by-step guidance is included here on how to save these items. Please remember to check and save all relevant materials for each of your VITAL modules.

If you have any questions about downloading and saving your VITAL materials, please contact CSD Service Desk by: emailing servicedesk@liverpool.ac.uk or using the online chat facility, available Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
