Activities during Welcome you won’t want to miss

Welcome can be pretty overwhelming right? You’ve got a long list of ‘to dos’ including registering with a GP, buying your bus pass if you’re off campus and the small matter of finding your way around what might be a brand new city.

In order that some of our fun and informative Welcome activities don’t just pass you by, we’ve distilled them into a list below. Give it a scan and make a note of anything that floats your boat. You can read the full programme of events organised by The Guild on their website.

  1. Welcome Party
    Sunday 17 September, 8.30pm-1am
    You are cordially invited to the ultimate Welcome Party, hosted in Mountford Hall. Mark the start of student life with sets from Twisted Wheel, Backchat Brass and our very own house DJ. It’s free to attend and we’ll be running a free bus service from Greenbank with the first bus leaving at 8:30pm. Interested in coming along but worried about going alone? There’s a get together before the party starts, where you can meet students in the same situation and go to the party as a group. The pre-meet starts at  6pm in the Gilmour Room in the Guild.
  2. Welcome Talks in Mountford Hall
    Monday 18 – Tuesday 19 September
    Across Monday and Tuesday we will be officially welcoming new students to the University. Each department will get a 30 minute slot (you will be contact about this separately) and there will be stalls on Guild Street (inside the Guild), where you can pick up practical information that you will need, including local GP details.
  3. Love Liverpool
    Monday 18 September, from 10am
    Whereas your Welcome Talk, above, is your formal welcome to Liverpool, the Monday of Welcome Week will also be a fun day across campus. Come for a mooch around stalls from local suppliers and bag some freebies!
  4. Welcome Week Cycle
    Monday 18 and Wednesday 20 September, 12-1pm
    Get a two-wheeled tour of campus by joining our Welcome Week cycle session. Bikes are supplied by The Guild if you don’t have your own and you will be shown the best cycle routes around the city centre, all whilst enjoying the Liverpool sights.
  5. Movie Night
    Monday 18 September, from 6pm

    if you’re more of a night-in that a night-out person why not join us in our very own cinema room in The Guild for a showing of 10 Things I Hate About You! Come along on your own or with fellow students, all are Welcome at this ice-breaker movie night!
  6. Meet the Teams
    Tuesday 19 September, from 10am
    University is not just about your School or department, there are a whole host of teams you’ll spend time with over the next few years and who will help to support your journey. Come along to University Square and meet some of them, including Careers, Student Support and more.
  7. Comedy Night and pre-meet
    Tuesday 19 September, pre-meet is 6-7pm
    Comedy Night is back at The Guild and we’ve got a whole selection of performers on standby, ready to make our new cohort of students belly laugh. It you’d like to come along but you don’t have anyone to come with so early into the semester, then we’re hosting a pre-meet before the show, for you to socialise with other students coming along to Comedy Night for the first time.
  8. Part-time Jobs Fair
    Wednesday 20 September, from 11am-3pm
    Come along to our Welcome Marquee on Peach Street to meet up to 40 local employers who are looking to recruit students to part-time roles.
  9. The Guild Commercial Fair and Sports Fair
    Thursday 21 September, from 9am

    The Guild and our Welcome Marquee on Peach Street will be your ‘go to’ place on Thursday and Friday of Welcome Week. On Thursday you can expect to meet incredible student brands, grab a whole load of freebies and get to know the Guild better.
  10. The Guild Societies Fair and Sports Fair
    Friday 22 September, from 9am

    Friday is all about Societies! Meet current students representing their society and here all about what they have to offer. You might already know which society to make a beeline for, but if not, you’ve got nothing to worry about as the choice is off the scale!
