Explore the range of extracurricular opportunities on offer for you

As well as achieving academically, extracurricular opportunities are an important part of your university experience, giving you valuable new skills and lasting memories.

At Liverpool, there’s a wide range of opportunities beyond studying for you to choose from, we’ve rounded up some ideas to get you started below.

Student Societies: make friends, try something new, and develop your skills

Societies are a great opportunity to meet like-minded students and enjoy a shared interest – whether it’s to pursue a hobby, celebrate a faith or culture, or expand your horizons beyond your studies. They are a great way to make friends, try something new, and develop your skills.

If you’ve not joined a society yet there’s still time, as many are happy to accept new members throughout the academic year. Head to the Liverpool Guild of Students website to start exploring what’s on offer. To get you started, here’s 8 student societies you might not have heard of.

Refreshers’ Fair

If you’re new to the University, or missed out on the Freshers Fair in September, make sure to attend the Guild Refreshers Fair on Friday 2 February, 9am-4pm, with 9-10am a special quiet hour.

Whether you want to get involved in one of the many societies at the University or simply need to stock up on freebies, the Refreshers Fair is not to be missed!  Come along and find out more about the Guild, meet student societies and sports clubs, plus a number of charities with CV-boosting volunteering opportunities to get involved in.

Learn a new language

Open Languages, our university-wide language programme, offers a suite of language modules including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish, with a flexible learning system.

Open Languages are available to undergraduate students who can choose to study a language as part of their degree programme, as well as to any students who wish to learn a language alongside their core studies. Whether you’re interested in business, travel, or simply broadening your horizons, mastering a new language can be a rewarding and intellectually stimulating aspect of your university journey.

Find out more and sign up as early as you can this January – bookings may close early if courses are over-subscribed. To avoid disappointment, make sure you enrol as soon as possible.
